Community Engagement + Communications Senior Associate

Position overview

Zan Associates is in search of a full-time Senior Associate. This person would help to empower
communities to have a voice during the planning, designing and building phases for public infrastructure projects by providing community and engagement activities. In this position, you would be responsible for project management; staff oversight and workload coordination; quality control/assurance; work plan, schedule, and budget management; and marketing and proposal writing. You will plan, implement, and facilitate the community engagement and communication activities needed to complete the community engagement/communications scope of multiple projects.

About the position

In this Senior Associate-level position, you would be part of a team of planners, engagement
specialists, and communications professionals, reporting to the Operations Manager. You would lead community engagement and communications activities for infrastructure planning, design, and construction projects, and you would help to supervise support staff. Specific tasks associated with this role include:

  • Lead projects and tasks on behalf of Zan Associates, including management of project scope, 
    schedule, and budget.

  • Plan, implement, and facilitate community engagement plans and strategies, including in-person and virtual events, presentations, and interactive activities.

  • Advise clients and communities on strategies for reaching target populations.

  • Supervise associate-level staff and manage project-related support staff.

  • Prepare communications materials such as project fact sheets, event notifications, social media posts, and website content.

  • Prepare summary reports and meeting minutes.

  • Stay up to date on community engagement, communications, and social media trends and innovations.

  • Support company business development including proposal pursuits and writing, marketing and networking.

  • Support company strategic visioning process and implementation.

  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, communications or a related field and 5 or more years of experience, or equivalent mix of education and work experience

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a self-directed environment

  • Experiencing with project management and leading, support and inspiring a staff team

  • Strong written, verbal and visual communications skills

  • Experience and/or interest in the public process, planning and design, and infrastructure.

  • Proficiency with the MS Office software suite, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

  • Familiarity with multiple cultures and diverse perspectives is a plus

  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus

  • Experience supporting diversity, equity and inclusion principles a plus

  • Experience with ERSI GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, or web design software a plus.

  • Interest in career advancement

Salary

Salary range is $72,100-$115,000
