Community Engagement + Communications Associate

Position overview

Zan Associates is in search of a full-time community engagement and communications specialist. This position involves providing community engagement services for planning, design, and construction projects in the public infrastructure and transportation. In this position you would be responsible for planning, implementing, and facilitating community engagement and communication activities needed to plan and implement a project’s community engagement/communications tasks.

About the position

In this associate-level position, you would be part of a team of planners, engagement specialists, and communications professionals. You would support a project manager on community engagement and communications activities for infrastructure planning, design, and construction projects. Your work will help to empower communities to have a voice in the process. Specific tasks associated with this role include:

  • Plan, implement, and facilitate community engagement activities, including in-person and virtual events, presentations, and interactive activities.

  • Prepare communications materials such as project fact sheets, event notifications, social media posts, and website content.

  • Prepare summary reports and meeting minutes.

  • Proactively manage project schedules and work tasks.

  • Stay up to date on community engagement, communications, and social media trends and innovations.

  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, communications or a related field and 2 or more years of experience, or equivalent mix of education and work experience.

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform work as part of a team and in a self-directed environment.

  • Strong written, verbal and visual communications skills.

  • Experience and/or interest in the public process, planning and design, and infrastructure.

  • Proficiency with the MS Office software suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience supporting diversity, equity and inclusion principles a plus.

  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus.

  • Experience with ERSI GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, or web design software a plus.

  • Interested in career advancement.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.


Salary range is $46,000-$71,000

Downtown Minneapolis. We offer a flexible work environment.
