Community Engagement + Communications Intern

About the position

Zan Associates is in search of a community engagement and communications intern. The internship is up to 40 hours per week during the non-academic calendar with the potential for part-time during the academic calendar. This position involves supporting community engagement services for planning, design, and construction projects in public infrastructure and transportation. In this position, you will learn and support planning, implementing, and facilitating community engagement and communication activities needed to implement a project’s community engagement/communications tasks.

About the internship

During the internship, you will be part of a team of planners, engagement specialists, and communications professionals working collaboratively to achieve project goals. You will support project manager(s) and project delivery staff(s) while learning about community engagement and communications for infrastructure planning, design, and construction projects. Your work will help to empower communities to have a voice in the process. Specific tasks associated with this role include:
Support planning and implementing community engagement activities, including in-person and virtual events, presentations, and interactive activities.

  • Prepare communications materials such as project fact sheets, event notifications, social media posts, and website content.

  • Prepare summary reports and meeting minutes.

  • Proactively manage assigned work.

  • Evening or weekend hours is required.

 

Intern eligibility

Interns must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education; and/or have been enrolled in a post-secondary education program within the last 12 months.​

Desired abilities and experience

The ideal intern candidate is pursuing or recently completed a degree in urban planning, public policy, communications, marketing, geography, landscape architecture, or a similar degree field. And aligns with Zan’s core values:

Possess or interest in these skills or experiences:

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform work as part of a team and in a self-directed environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Experience and/or interest in the public process, planning and design, and infrastructure.

  • Proficiency with the MS Office software suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience supporting diversity, equity and inclusion principles a plus.

  • Experience with ERSI GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, or web design software a plus.
     

Salary

Pay range is $20 per hour.

Position location

Downtown Minneapolis.
